Darryl Making an Impact – The SA Taxi Way

 

Meet Darryl Lewis, a married father of two and a Sales Manager at our Cape Town branch. He grew up in a family of four, with both parents and a younger sister, to who he somewhat became a deputy parent because there were things she could speak to him about that she couldn’t with her parents. “That taught me a level of responsibility that I apply to my work today,” he says.

 

Darryl joined SA Taxi in 2017 as a Business Development Officer (BDO) in the Loan Origination department at our Cape Town branch where he managed seven dealerships in the outskirts of the Western Cape. Three months ago he started his new role as a Sales Manager at the SA Taxi Direct Brackenfell saled outlet.

 

In 2008 he registered for a BCom in Accounting at the University of the Western Cape after matriculating from Parow High School. A while into the course, he realised it wasn’t going as he had hoped and he took a few years off. This realisation led him to roll with the punches and enrol for a BCom in Finance and Investments which he completed in 2015. He intends to take his studies a step further by registering for his Honors in 2022.
Rolling with the punches is a lesson Darryl is glad he learned early because it’s something he does a lot in his work in sales. “If a deal is not going to happen, the guys just tell me it’s not going to happen and we move on to the next one”, he explains.

 

For Darryl, working at SA Taxi has been a welcome challenge that has been equally rewarding and he hopes to make his way up the ranks to get to a point where he can effect real change in the company and the industry. One of the greatest rewards was bumping into a customer who had previously struggled to get financed. “A customer who had been struggling to get a taxi for months was eventually approved by SA Taxi. Some months later, I was en route to a dealership and when I stopped at the robot, someone was hooting and waving at me. When I looked over I saw it was the man we financed and he was still so grateful”, he recalls.

 

The biggest reward though is seeing his children recognise his work. “My son knows that my work is to make sure that people get to work and every time he sees a taxi, he points at it and says ‘Daddy there is your car!” he beams.

 

It’s amazing to see that even the youngest members of the SA Taxi family can see the work we are putting towards Driving Our Nation Forward.
